Val D’Isere
Val d’Isere is a part of a large skiing area, called “˜Espace Killy’ with Tignes. It is a hometown of Jean-Claude Killy – Winter Olympic Games hero and medallist. Known as the “˜Mecca’ of all ski resorts, Val d’Isere offers some of the best skiing in the Alps, from
the beginner slopes to high altitude glacier skiing, there are excellent groomed runs and an abundance of off piste skiing or snowboarding areas, that will please every level. Val D’Isere is an efficient ski resort that has never forgotten about its traditions and rural site. It is famous for the exceptional skiing, but also for its special atmosphere.
Val d’Isère’s slopes have always been the setting for great sporting achievements, be it for the Olympic Games, Criterium de la Première Neige or World Alpine Ski Championships, but this legendary skiing area is not exclusively for champions.
300 km of slopes, free-ride itineraries, a snowpark, a high altitude and an outstanding geographical situation combine to provide something for everyone, including children and beginners.
Val d’Isere is split into three main ski areas, the slopes of Bellevarde, which contains Val d’Isere’s renowned downhill slalom course, Solaise, known for perfect sunny slopes for the van chaud skiers as well as those new to the snow and Col de l’Iseran, which offers picturesque skiing at its best. Snowboarders will also not be disappointed with the range of board parks, off piste and cruisy slopes at their fingertips.
In the year 1920, there was only a small village situated high up in a wide valley. Village life was governed by the rhythm of the seasons. Its inhabitants hibernated through the winter months, shrouded in snow for eight months of the year. Only the short summer months allowed them to work in the fields, produce cheeses and lace. This harsh life didn’t hold many prospectives and many of them left the village. Now, Val d’Isere is one of Europes most prestige ski resorts, boasting 99 lifts that cover over 300kms of marked trails and an enormous expanse of off-piste skiing.
